I wonder what makes it branch. I’m assuming it’s following the path of least resistance, but what is it hitting in the air to make it split?
the first discharge searches for the appropriate conduit and then when the strongest link is found electrons are thrust more assuredly to the ground in the final stage of the strike which generates more energy and appears more brilliantly, it is like having circuits in the air that are invisible, bridges, maybe, where a bridge appears is determined by certain conditions, needless to say, lightning is very common, occuring 40-50 times a second around the globe. this is all I really know
